Dear Comrade Movie Review: Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Straight Out Of Arjun Reddy’ Avatar Still Holds The Similar Charm!

What’s Good: The undisputed charm of Vijay Deverakonda, various things the story tries to make us understand, Rashmika’s utmost sincere performance

What’s Bad: Variable pace of the film, lazy editing & some forcefully added twists.

Loo Break: Yup! You’ll need one. The duration is too long to resist a loo break

Watch or Not?: Only if you’re a Deverakonda fan!

User Rating:

In the introductory sequence, we see Bobby (Vijay Deverakonda) drunk and trying to call Lilly (Rashmika Mandanna). He gets furious and she’s unable to reach her cellphone, and we’re taken back to a flashback. It all starts in Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) where Bobby met Lilly as his neighbour’s relative. Bobby is the head or as they say ‘Comrade’ of the students’ union in his college. For always fighting for what’s right, Bobby invites many uncalled for issues.

As they spend time together, Bobby starts to fall for Lilly but it’s not the same with her in the beginning. As this love story proceeds, we see different twists and turns to it. One of which includes fighting with depression and the other being sexual harassment for female players in the field of sports. How they play a role in Bobby and Lilly’s love story? Watch it to know it!

Dear Comrade Movie Review: Script Analysis

Director Bharat Kamma has penned the story himself and he has tried to infuse a lot of things into it. When there are perfect moments there also are many of them scattered. When you get more into the story, you realise how there were many things that could’ve been avoided. Sujith Sarang’s camera fails to capture the real beauty of the North in the second half.

Most of them are drone shots, and the places shown are very touristy. The film nears the 3-hour mark and it’s not Arjun Reddy. The editing could have been way more crispy, but to talk about everything editor misses the charm. The philosophical take on the script helps to regain the momentum, but it tests your patience.

Dear Comrade Movie Review: Star Performance

When the movie started Vijay Deverakonda seemed to be straight out of Arjun Reddy. In fact, there are many ‘Arjun Reddy’ easter eggs like ‘watching your face in the mirror after shaving’ sequence, protagonists love for the bike, his trait for doing what’s always right, principal shouting at the protagonist for being too impulsive and much more. Vijay is a crate full of various emotions, be it anger or love, he knows how and where to shift the gears.

Rashmika Mandanna enjoys an extensively written character. Her graph allows her to go through various phases and she manages to master every single of it. She, undoubtedly, is charming and that comes in handy when the makers build up the romantic angle between the leads. But, she’s equally mature enough to handle the high-on-emotions scenes.

Another issue with the film is, it doesn’t have a strong supporting cast. There was a whole lot of scope to sketch some memorable characters, but it’s an opportunity lost.

Dear Comrade Movie Review: Direction, Music

Bharat Kamma captains a very burdened ship, and because the story has so much to cover, there are times when everything goes slow. The crux of the story is drama but Kamma makes sure it’s not dramatic the entire time. There’s sorrow, there’s romance, there’s friendship and every one of the work at their own levels.

Dear Comrade Movie Review: The Last Word

All said and done, Dear Comrade consists of yet another bombastic performance by Vijay Deverakonda. It’s nothing less than a great to his girl-fans. Had much scope of improvement but still recommended for Vijay & Rashmika.

Three stars!
